Overview
A practical single-machine high-power grid-connected model for the RT-LAB Artemis direct-drive wind turbine, featuring back-to-back controllers for both the generator side and grid side, based on grid-following control.
This model constructs a wind power generation system with a rated power of 4 MW, serving as a high-power single-machine grid-connected model for a Permanent Magnet Synchronous Generator (PMSG). The model can be used to study the operational characteristics of wind turbines and PMSGs, as well as to evaluate the control strategies of back-to-back converters. The model mainly consists of the following components: the power grid, the grid-side converter (GSC), the machine-side converter (MSC), the back-to-back converter control system, the PMSG, and the wind turbine body model.
Key Features
-
- Supports one-time verification of electromagnetic parameters for high-power Grid-Following (GFL) wind turbines. The model runs stably on the RT-LAB platform, suitable for real-time simulation and solution verification.
-
- Supports high-power output for grid-following direct-drive wind turbines, with active power regulation ranging from 0.8 MW to 4 MW, meeting output testing requirements under various operating conditions.
-
- Features High Voltage Ride-Through (HVRT) and Low Voltage Ride-Through (LVRT) testing capabilities. It can simulate typical disturbance conditions such as sudden voltage rises and drops in the grid, verifying the wind turbine system’s voltage adaptability, control response speed, and fault recovery characteristics under grid-connected conditions. This meets the national standard GB/T 19963 requirements for low voltage ride-through grid connection technical specifications for wind turbines.

-
- Features load increase and short-circuit grounding testing capabilities, simulating typical disturbance scenarios in actual grid operations. Through step-wise load switching, it verifies the system’s dynamic response and recovery characteristics under sudden changes in active/reactive power. By injecting short-circuit grounding faults, it tests the system’s fault ride-through capability and the correctness of protection actions, providing a reliable testing basis for safety assessment before equipment grid connection.
Getting Started
- Load and initialize the WT_PMSG_Artemis model.
- Start the simulation using default parameter configurations.
- By modifying the reference power input value, the active power output of the wind turbine can be adjusted within the range of 0.8 MW to 4 MW.
