Material and construction of the 8-inch inset light shall comply with applicable FAA AC 150/5345-46F requirements. The housing, top cover, optical assembly, seals, fasteners and internal components shall have adequate mechanical strength, dimensional stability, corrosion resistance and environmental durability. The complete fixture shall withstand the FAA static load requirement of 450 lb/in² of top area, equivalent to approximately 22,620 lb (10.26 tonnes-force / 100.9 kN) for an 8-inch circular fixture, without cracking, permanent deformation or loss of optical/electrical performance. The fixture shall also withstand the specified 11,000 lb (4,989 kg) horizontal shear load, impact, vibration/shock, water-ingress and thermal tests, including the applicable maximum surface-temperature requirement during wheel-cover operation. Materials and construction shall ensure reliable continuous outdoor airfield operation and compliance with the applicable FAA and ICAO requirements.
