Static Synchronous Compensator (STATCOM)

Overview

A transmission-level STATCOM example for reactive power control and AC voltage regulation with and without droop.

This model demonstrates a STATCOM applied on a transmission network for voltage regulation and reactive power support. It deserves a place in the first 10 because it broadens the community library beyond DER and microgrid content into transmission and FACTS use cases.

It is a strong fit for utilities, consultants, and power electronics engineers working on dynamic voltage support, droop behavior, and reactive power dispatch.

Key Features

  • Transmission-level reactive power compensation example
  • Voltage regulation mode and Q regulation mode
  • Supports droop-based voltage behavior discussions
  • Useful for transmission planning and dynamic support studies

Getting Started

  1. Open STATCOM.ecf from the FACTS & HVDC category
  2. Run the default scenarios
  3. Compare operation with and without droop enabled
  4. Observe PCC voltage and reactive power exchange

In your studies, when do you prefer operating a STATCOM in voltage regulation mode versus direct reactive power control?

@Parija Do you have E-Statcom model with grid formign control?

@Vincent_Jiang
I do not currently have an E-STATCOM model available to share. However, it will be available soon, and I will tag you as soon as it is ready.

@Party_Patel Thank you very much.
